Aston Martin Vantage V12 Zagato

Aston Martin Vantage V12 Zagato

Year of production 2013 - 2013

Model: Vantage (2005 - ...)

V12 Zagato (pre-production)

A Toro Red left-hand drive pre-production road car was unveiled at the Kuwait Concours in February 2012. The same car was subsequently the star on the Aston Martin stand at the Geneva Motor show in March. The car, whilst pre-production, was built to full and production spec and also appeared in the exclusive sales brochure. The carbon brakes from the V12 Vantage and not fitted to the race Zagatos were back. The Kuwait/Geneva car also had a regular six speed manual transmission and thus AML confirmed the  Sportshift box, as used on the race cars, was not to be offered on production road cars.

The show car also had a road car spec interior using seven Bridge of Weir semi-aniline hides with hand-stitched quilting of a unique design, creating a flowing pattern that evokes a dynamic sense of movement across the seats and headlining, while ‘Z’ embroidery in the headrests and rear parcel shelf added a further flourish. There was also a neat and unique touch to the AM wings badge as the background to the script was picked out in red.

A second pre-production car, shown here sporting the famous 1 AML number plate was also built. This, believed to be the final pre-production prototype, was used during high speed testing at Nardo in Italy. It was photographed as part of the Octane Tour to the 2012 Windsor Concours during September.

V12 Zagato (production)

The production of the planned 101 examples of the Zagato began in the second half of 2012 using the same Gaydon facility that had previously been used to build the One-77. On introduction the UK price including taxes was announced to be £396,000, about double the cost of the V12 Vantage. There is some reason to believe that production of the Zagato ended midway through 2013 and the number of cars completed fell short of the intended total making this particular car one of the rarest and most desirable Aston Martin of recent years.

Aston Martin V12 ZAGATO

When you combine the brands of Aston Martin and Zagato you're setting the scene for some fairly major expectations.

You might think back to that original collaboration from the early 1960s, the DB4 GT Zagato, a superb concoction of style and menace wrapping thoroughbred British engineering; Jim Clark sublimely drifting '2 VEV' at Goodwood. Then there's the V8 Zagato of 1985: I've not driven one, ...
